Things to Consider Before Starting the Kitchen Project

2.3 What Style of Kitchen Do You Have In Mind?

You want to give the kitchen designers as much information as possible. You need to do as much research as possible before your meeting with a kitchen designer. First, you should consult design magazines and catalogues to get a good idea of what style and design elements you would like to see in your kitchen.

Second, you should compile more ideas by visiting kitchen design showrooms, have a look online for products and designs, then take some notes such as your likes and dislikes of colours, styles or features of kitchens. Then make a scrapbook with clippings from said magazines and catalogues, as well as examples of materials (type of hardwood etc, colour you would like it hand painted) and design elements you would like to see in the kitchen. Use these to show the kitchen designer what your vision is for the new kitchen. It is also very important at this stage to decide what appliances you want included in the design.

Apart from the obvious hob, you need to decided things like what type of oven you would like, whether it's a single oven, a double oven or even two ovens; you have a large number of other appliances to choose from, like a combination microwave, integrated coffee machine (a personal favourite), a warming drawer, a steam over etc. These would need to be incorporated into the design right from the start. You should also think of refrigeration requirements, the fridge and freezer will be the most bulky items that you're going to have in your kitchen.
